Me neither. There was a small crank/handle on each side of the dashboard that was turned to operate the lights. Apparently this was the most reliable method at the time.
Which means that the driver would have to pull over and stop to open/close the right-hand light, unless he wanted to reach over and do it whilst moving and risk an accident. Sort of like texting while driving these days.
Or changing a CD.. Or eating a packet of crisps.. Or "rubbernecking" at something on the other carriageway... Or sticking a dummy in a crying childs mouth... Etc.... When my wife is driving she insists on looking at me when she is talking to me.. "Look where you are going!" I say.... "I know, but i can't help it" she says!
